The Final post

Hi Everyone!

This is the last but not least post, indeed this blog assists me to challenge myself to eradicate the fear from using technology and developing my skills. As a result, I have achieved  my ambitions through my learning goals and even exceeded them. Therefore, I changed my goals during the assignment to navigate in web2.0  to explore more tools that are not used in this blog which could help me in information management.

Using various activities in this blog helped me a lot to improve my skills particularly how I can deal with web technologies because I have explored many different tools through following some given instructions and by searching the internet. For example, I have been able to embed a specific YouTube clip in my post and create a website. All these achievements are considered new goals that I hadn't listed in my learning goals.

Honestly, this improvement in my skills makes a great change in my life because I have become more enthusiastic and confident to explore new aspects of technology, despite some difficulties that I encountered in the first and second weeks when I established this blog in order to discover more tools that I had not heard of before. These tools include RSS, BillionGrave, Flickr, social bookmarking, Endnote, mashup and Amaya and also tools that I hadn't been willing to deal with such as Twitter, Google maps and Google document. Moreover  if you replace flicker  within Instagram it may help students to extend their knowledge to the very newest  programs. Furthermore, these activities are adequate to broaden students horizons at the first stage.

Overall, all these technological skills that I learnt throughout the past six weeks have helped me to raise my level of knowledge to become more professional  in formation management in my future career. Knowing how to use this information is important for any job.

My First Website

Hi Everyone!

This week was so exciting and fun because I have succeeded in creating my first website by using Amaya web editor which is considered a new goal that I have achieved that was not listed in my learning goals.

The first step after downloading Amaya editor was to create an index page which includes many links like:
-         First and second HTML pages that was created last week.
-         My blog.
-         Home page 'Maria's Fruit  and Veg'.

Secondly, I created four pages which consisted of  'Home page', 'products', 'news', 'contact us' and linked them together. Additionally, each page has specific information for  example, history of  Maria's family business in home page as well as type of products with expressive pictures and prices on the product page. Moreover, the latest news about products in the news page and some details that help client in terms of  communication are available in 'contact us' page.

Indeed, creating a website exceeds my goals and it was quick and very easy.

Mashups-Google News Mashup

Hi Everyone!

'Mashup'  is one of the new concepts that I encountered in web2.0 tools. It seemed a strange word the first time I read it.
After investigation of some examples of 'mashing up' through YouTube, I understand what it means and come across a mashup called Google Maps/Google News mashup. It allows users to do search Google news all over the world around location. After clicking a specific place on the map, you can see a list of news titles about this location, then users need to choose one of these news title to allow users to find YouTube videos about the title.

This tool is considered convenient  for users in terms of ease to use and provides  news instantly.  Indeed, using multimedia location- based news is a novel idea.

NaturalMash Demo - Google Maps/Google News mashup

Google News mashup collects news from various sources. It is amazing to choose news in the location you want, furthermore, users could get You tube videos and tweets related to the news that they find.

In this post I add a YouTube clip about mashup which is considered a new goal that is not listed in my learning goals.

Google Map

Hi everyone!

This week I worked on Google map, I thought  that it would be the biggest challenge for me in my blog. Surprisingly, it was easy and fun. My work began through searching  YouTube which is help me a lot.

I have encountered a little difficulty at first because Google map layer which I logged in was different from that I watched in YouTube  as well as tools. But I was quickly able to create Google map of my trip to Sydney, made marks for three places which I liked it:
-         Darling harbor.
-         Circular quay.
-         Four points by Sheraton  (Hotel).

Moreover, I wrote simple description for each place and added expressive pictures on the map.Furthermore, I added YouTube gadget to share this content with my group. I hope that you benefit from this topic ' Embed your custom Google map in your blog' which helped me a lot.

I've been able to create Google map that has listed in my learning goals.

HTML

Hi Every one!

This week we did HTML coding through Notepad.  To me, actually this was exhausting because it is time consuming. Typing all these codes I need to concentrate on each letter you will write  which leads to eye strain. As you know if there is anything wrong during our typing HTML code we need to fix it and this is very hard with this type of programming.

Ultimately, after all this effort I can create two pages HTML, save them as .html file and open them by using Google Chrome. At this moment when I see the HTML result I feel happy, also this achievement is considered a new goal that is not listed in my learning goals.

This week I had a minor obstacle which is My computer has an Arabic operating system, so I couldn't work on Notepad and I tried to work on the laptop in the class, but it didn't work . Then I tried to find another laptop which also took a lot of time to work and as a result, I lost My time and complete my typing in building 8.

Social bookmarking tools

Hi everyone !

Diigo

Diigo is ʻa multi-tool for personal knowledge management dramatically improve our workflow and productivity easy and intuitive. Much of our library has shifted to online resourcesʼ, So Diigo help us to organize our electronic information in one location.

This week4 I was signing up with the social bookmarking tool such as Diigo, it was easy and after exploring Diigo tools with our group. I learnt how to download the symbol of Diigo that help me to capture websites easly and quickly. Then, I made bookmarks for my favorite and used websites into my library, tagged it, share it with public, divided these websites into three lists For example:
        -where you find me (3).
        - Library (2).
        - Flickr & BillionGraves (2).
This is just the start!.

I encountered some difficulty in the beginning to create sets, but Susanne, Kate, Lisette and Me work as a group to cope with this issue.

Bellow there is a snapshot for my library in Diigo .

My library in Diigo.

Furthermore, I noticed that Diigo and Endnote seem alike in ability to make social bookmarking that help users to manage and organize their documents.
However, the difference is Endnote has features that helps people to make references electronically which is beneficial for academic research.

Using Diigo to set social bookmarking is considered a new goal that hadn't been listed in my learning goals.

Google Document

Hi Everyone !

Today I will talk about our experiment with Google document .

Actually our group already have Google document that created by Susanne at the beginning of this semester which aims to help each other in this course Document Management 1, but in the last tutorial our group have made the decision that this document is used to discuss all problems that we may face in common courses.

Moreover, Susanne made a suggestion to change the name of this document. Each member suggested the name, ultimately our group voted to Bloggers Anonymous!.

Furthermore, there are some rules when using this document for example, each member write in different color and write the date.
In addition, the aims of creating this document in the tutorial(week4) is to discuss social bookmarking tools such as Diigo, Delicious, CiteUlike, etc. Our group agree to start focusing and discussing Diigo in this document.

Each member started to explore Diigo and  wrote about his vision of Diigo tools, also we help each other to solve any issue we found it.
Here the link of our discussing in Google document (Bloggers Anonymous).
This achievement is considered a new goal that hadn't been listed in my learning goals.

My experience with BillionGraves

Hi everyone!

Today my post is about my experience with BillionGraves.com .

BillionGraves
I was hesitant to explore BillionGrave because I had a sad story in February 2014(My father died). I thought I will relive the sad moment, but I intended to contribute to this program and continued to challenge myself.

I started with the  downloaded BillionGrave application from Apple store in my mobile and made register process then explored how  I could  deal with these tools in this program. I watched the tutorial which helped me a lot to understand how to use tools. After taking photos in Melbourne General Cemetery, then logged on to BillionGrave.com from my laptop and started with made transcribe photos.

I didn't face any problem with BillionGraves. It was very easy to contribute in this program.

Flickr

Hi Everyone!

This week I explore another new tool  for me that I had never heard about before which is Flickr. The process was easy, beginning to log on to the flicker website then create an account in Yahoo then I started to upload my photo and tried to explore the metadata menu. I noticed this menu is intuitive and I was very interested in this feature because it saved me time when I wanted to edit the title or add description. It highlighted by itself what I wanted to copy from the title or description of special photo and allowed me to past it for a new photo. I was also able to put my photo in different sets depending the name of country of my trip for example Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Australia, but I faced  difficulty to control the size of these pictures.
Moreover I have able to follow my friend Lisette Teasdale.

Bellow the link for my Flickr photostream.

Twitter Progress & Organisational Examples

Twitter Progress:

 Hi Everyone!

This week I felt more confident with technology, so I started tweet in the lecture via #isys1166 hashtag compared to last week (I can't tweet). Now after finishing week 3, I started to achieve some of my goals like:

-         Breaking the barrier of fear in using new technologies such as Twitter.
-         Challenging myself, so I need to push myself to do things that  I do not necessarily comfortable doing  like Write Tweet .

Organizational Examples:

One example of an organization using Twitter to help clients was The British Library. The British Library use their Twitter account for informing their clients about historical artefacts and different events that are coming up. Also, they post information relating to the date, for example, on St Patrick's day they posted an image of St Patrick in a document from the 13th century.

Also I find Commonwealth bank using Twitter to ' help customer to Keep up to date with the latest news and information on investment markets from Australia's leading online broker '.

Technological tools

Hi everyone!

In this week I felt confident and familiar with exploring more and more in technology tools, so I listed below some of them which I hope it is will useful for you and I add it under Page gadget.

Mashme- tv
One of my favorite tools is mashme.tv it provides group video chat and other online audio, video broadcasting and communication services for individuals, businesses, and organizations. In order to access certain features of the Site and Services, you must register to create an account and become a “Member”. To become a Member you must be at least 15 years old.

Cometdocs

This blog explain how to use master document tool/feature when working with large word files, it is sometimes hard to organize such as report, research, etc. A Master Document is more of a container or folder that holds a set of sub documents within it. While the Master Document gives off the appearance of one large document, the sub documents are actually individual documents that can be edited independently.

RSS and Feedly

Hi Everyone!
At the first time my eye catch the word (RSS) in my assignment 1, I asked myself what it meant because I never had heard this word before. As you know English is not my mother language, so I tried to search about (RSS) in the Blogger’s Quick Tutorial. Unfortunately I couldn't find the answer there, then I started to read about it in Google, ultimately I understood what it means and checked it with my friend Lisette.

I learned we use RSS feeds to keep up to date with blogs or website by creating an account in Feedly.com, which I did. Also I found it so easy and interesting to deal with this site, it has great user interface and simple access organizational tools. I immediately began to subscribe to the RSS feeds of all my favorite blogs. I have been able to create four subject collections according to the different types of blogs I follow that including (Document Management 1[My Group], Interior Design, News, Photography).
For example, the design blogs are in the 'Interior Design' folder and news blogs in the 'News' folder.

My First Experience with Twitter

Hi Everyone!
I spent many years of my life with a false sense that I don't have enough time to get to know how to use technology and communicate with people all over the world by microblogging tools such as twitter or other social networking, but that was not the truth. The truth is I have a fear from dealing with each new in technology.

As a result, I started my tutorial with a bit of stress and I had a lot of difficulty creating my account, but I wasn't be able to create it in spite of the help and the guidance of Huan. I felt very disappointed, after that in the break I felt more comfortable and I went to the IT service in level 3, but suddenly I was able to create an twitter account without any help of them. What's the magic that happened ?

The answer is  I felt more serene than I did in the tutorial and this means that I began to break the barrier of fear in using new technology which is one of my goals.

According to science of energy, the negative energy transmitted from human to the surrounding environment and this what happened with me.
Ultimately I have Twitter account @Noufkr, I began to see the light of technology in my life and started my journey with the world of twitter. I've learned how to following Twitter accounts, the difference between message and tweet, reply and re-tweet,etc. Until now I have one tweet and many following and followers.
 Here my first tweet.

Some Example of following :

State Library of Victoria

   State library of Victoria

 BillGates
  Bill Gates
9 NEWS
 9 News
This is just the beginning.

Actually twitter helps organisational IM to expand and reach easily for everyone, therefore Twitter can bring all people over the world together under one umbrella, especially during a conference/event/lecture.

Interesting blog

Hi Everyone!

There is no doubt that reading expands the horizon where it leaves a good impact on the person at the beginning stage which then impacts the community, therefore attention must be paid to the display and organization of the information by using information management technology in this era of technological age.

ReadWriteblog is one of the interesting blogs that allows the reader to enjoy reading tirelessly by displaying classified articles. This blog is characterized by superb design, which makes the article concise through the display of a small window where an image occupies half of the space, whereas the other half of the available space has the title and the main idea of the article. This makes the page visually balanced, which makes it easier for the viewer to access the articles. It also avoids frequent interlinkages and advertisements that are usually seen on the right and left of the page, which result in the distraction of the reader. In addition, this blog takes into account both the simplicity and ability to post comments or share the link of the article by using Facebook, Twitter, Google plus, In and Reddit.

This blog using IM technology with high professionalism to achieve eye catching.

Welcome to my blog

My warmest greetings to  Huan and to my great group members Christina, Kate, Lisette, Luisa and Susanne.

My name is Nouf  and I’m from Saudi Arabia, I have been in Australia for a year to study the English language and now I am in my first semester of Master of Information Management. I have worked around 11 years in Ministry of Social Affairs; 10 of them I worked in childcare on the computer and in the last year, I was in Department of Incoming and Outgoing Transaction. Last but not least, I am a mother of 3 children.

For a fact, I am very far from social networking technologies, as a result this is the first time for me to create and understand what a blog means. It is a chance for me to share important moments, and there is a lot more to come: goals, challenges and opportunities!

Anything is possible when you just believe in yourself, in spite of all the difficulties that I had encountered to create this blog and in making comments for my group, I am excited to start this project in this course and I am ready for challenges.
I would like to thank Kate for helping me create this blog, and thank you Lisette  and Susanne as well.
My personal learning goals are:
·        Breaking the barrier of fear in using new technologies such as Twitter, Google Maps.
·      Being familiar with technology such as participation in Wikipedia or BillionGraves.
·      Challenging myself, so I need to push myself to do things that  I do not necessarily comfortable doing like Write Tweet .
·       Displaying the information in an orderly manner and making it interesting for the reader.
I'm looking forward to working with my group and I hope by the end of this course that I have achieved some of my goals.
